Motorcycle Traffic violation - please help?

My friend has just gotten a speeding ticket for doing 63 miles in a supposed 40 zone on a motorcycle in Texas. (If not 40 then it will be 45 just have to clarify tomorrow but the police officer sited it as 40 zone). He has never received a traffic violation and we are not sure what the best options are. On the ticket they say you can pay your fine and get 2 points on the licence. This would mean a $235 fine + 2 points, Firstly, will this affect his insurance if he goes ahead and pays? Option 2: Court. The ticket gives the option of attending traffic school or Motorcycle Operator Training Course + paying fee. We cannot find any Motorcycle place that does these courses just for traffic violations. He has already done the basic course when he first started riding 1 year ago. Does he need to do it again? Or will that course count? Can he just do the traffic school courses online for $25? Any suggestions as to how to get out of this ticket or pay the least amount of money would be great!
My friend is my husband! Got to protect the one you love don’t you!

Do the traffic school.. If you get a 2nd ticket or have an accident and have not cleared the 1st ticket off of your record by going to school, your insurance can double or triple for 3 years.. add what that would cost you to your decision..
it will affect insurance the same either way classes give you your points back on your license but do not change points for insurance ratings go to court they may lower the fine if you plead guilty but not always
been there done that years ago
His cheapest and best bet is probably going to be traffic school. The judge isn’t going to accept a course taken before the offense occurred.
There are no motorcycle courses just for traffic tickets and the one your bud took is probably going to run at least $175 if he re-takes it… if he can find a DPS taught class and not the more expensive Harley-Davidson class.
If he’ll call the police station they can tell him if the on-line course is acceptable.
Do the MOTORCYCLE ADVANCED RIDER’S COURSE - it is NOT the same as the driver’s course, it is NOT the same as the basic rider’s course, you can NOT take it on line - you must take it on a motorcycle - and it’s FUN.
The regular auto driver course or traffic school can NOT be used to avoid having an offense on a motorcycle operator’s record - and taking the motorcycle course can result in REDUCED insurance payments in some cases.
See for a link to all the training locations in Texas.
Traffic laws and the related fines and penalties vary from state to state obviously, but where I live it’s not the license points that get you, it’s the insurance ones.
The points on our license’s stay for three years, the insurance ramifications last for seven! If your bud’s ticket holds at the first set of numbers, in my state that would equate to willful and wantfull reckless driving and if convicted could cause the loss of his drivers license for a year.
Hire a lawyer. Period. In most cases on the first offense the lawyer can plead it down or get it thrown out. The cost of a lawyer to handle the case, again, where I live, will be much much less than the increased insurance costs for the next several years.

Hey Cycle Mart dude; At what point did I even mention jail? Please point that out to me.
Go to court and the judge will let you select your options. You can get deferred adjudication inTexas. I did this for a ticket I recieved at 105mph when I passed the highway patrol. oops.
Deferred adjudication means the ticket is thrown out as long as you don’t get another in 6 months. That is the best way to go.
You are not going to jail like the guy above said. If jail was so easy to get we would all run and we would all have been to jail for SPEEDING. I used to be a police officer and and I also have had my share of tickets. jail is reserved for the complete morons; which you are not. 60 in a 40 is not a big deal.
Second choice is taking the MSF advanced course and they are everywhere. it counts as traffic school and is about $100 It is a 1 day class and really boring but at least you are riding. you have to pay court fees and you will have to pay for the class.
No matter which route you take the court will get money. That is why they hand out so many tickets for stupid things like no seat belt.
So get used to the fact that your gunna pay just keep it off your record. We refer to speeding tickets as Sport bike tax and if you are on a sport bike you will have to pay some hefty taxes once in a while. i would guess after all is said and done you will pay around $200
There are also many lawyers that specialize in traffic tickets. They are fairly cheap but I would only use them with tickets over 100mph.
All other tickets I fight myself or i just try to keep off my record. The lawyers are not Matlock, they take hundreds of tickets a week and work most of them like an assembly line.
So, just go see the judge; they are smarter than cops and it wont be that bad. get deffered Adjudication or take the MSF course and next time run…just kidding.
You go to any traffic school. It doesn’t have to be vehicle specific. They want you to obey laws, not learn to ride a bike. You need to go to a real driver’s education class that is specifically for traffic violations. It will be a boring, all day class on a saturday. In Virginia, 63 in a 40 is reckless driving. Next time, tell your friend not to speed. Also, why do you care so much about your friend’s ticket? Or is your “friend” really you?
I have talked to people in Oklahoma who had to retake the beginner course for this reason.
if theres a traffic school available, that would be the cheapest way out…….
in the long run.
